About this trading website

I created this website to help people who wish to learn to trade the markets, discover one of the quickest paths to success that I know, which is the Al Brooks Trading Course.

Believe me, I’ve spent literally decades messing about with systems, indicators, strategies, chart types, order flow, you name it, but in the end it always came down to understanding price action essentials.

At this website I’ve also added some additional resources to help you along your way, including some of my own personal trading experiences which can be found in my blog section.

So, thanks for visiting and good luck in your trading journey - which in my humble opinion is a journey well worth taking for more reasons than just income.

My Trading Journey

In 1987 I was a 23 year old young man working in Germany as an Aero-engineer developing a test engine for the Euro Fighter jet aircraft. There were about 50 of us Brits working over in Munich at the time. Those were the good old days when you could earn a decent living on contract!

One day I walked into an office to see a few fellow British colleagues leaning over a desk discussing a hand drawn price chart. I could see they were excited about something, but for me it was all new. What they were looking at was a daily chart of some UK stock they had compiled using data from the pages of the Financial Times newspaper.

Back then there was no internet, and the only way financial news could be obtained involved a daily trip by train to Hauptbahnhof train station in Munich to visit the International Press shop. Little did I know it but I was hooked!

Two years later (still living near Munich) I was downloading end of day data on to my Amstrad PC over a dial-up telephone link. It took a few minutes to download this data then import it into an early version of Meta Trader trading software. I think it cost £22 per month for the end of day data. Thus began my trading career.

However trading didn’t really take off for me for at least another 20 years because life just got in the way. Although I often watched the markets, and dabbled with a few trades, I was too full of life and wanted to run my own business.

Along the way I dabbled with Traded Options and for a year or two tried to make money that way on the side. However for whatever reason - probably not putting in enough effort - I gave up and looked for another business to start. Which I did. In fact from 1990 to 2009 I started up and ran several businesses in between working at my core contracting engineering.

Back around 2009 I came across a chap who went by the name of Bbmac on one of the forex forums. I had it in my mind that I wanted to be a scalper and his methodology seemed to gel with me. He traded Cable (Forex British Pound/US Dollar) using a self developed system of Bollinger Bands and Divergence indicators. At first glance his charts look very complicated, a case of indicator overdose some might say. However not knowing any better and liking what I saw, with Bbmac’s help I learned how to trade this system.

Here is a screen shot of a typical chart using bbmac’s system just so you get an idea of how it looks…

Scary right! So many squiggly lines and indicators to look at and understand. However I was drawn to the fact that Bbmac used to start trading at around 7:00am, and aimed to make around 20 pips in Cable before finishing for the day, which was usually around 11:00am. He did this day in, day out. This of course was a dream aspiration for me - well for most others too I would imagine. Instead of working all day, I would make all the money I needed, have no boss to work for, earn all the money I needed after a few hours trading, then finish for the day to do as I pleased. A dream life of course.

(Actually I would love to teach people how to trade using Bbmac’s Bollinger Band method because it is good. However he once told me not to do this and I will not go against his wishes).

So how do I trade today?

It was also back in 2009 went popped into a bookstore in Dublin Ireland to find Al Brook’s first book called “Reading Price Charts Bar by Bar”. Wow - I couldn’t believe my find. There were not too many good trading books covering so much detail and I found it a brilliant read.

From 2012 I decided to put proper effort into trading once again, but part time after work, learning to trade mostly using simple price action Al Brooks style on the 3m or 5m chart. I used the ProRealTime charting platform initially, trading forex. However today I use NinjaTrader and only trade Futures, in particular Gold although I do trade ES, Crude Oil too on occasion.

Giving something back.

I’ve learned a whole lot of lessons along the way and feel I have a lot to share. Trading is a tough game to learn to do well, but it is incredibly rewarding in so many ways. You certainly grow as an individual through the lessons learned. So this website is my way of giving something back and also promote the Al Brooks training course as the best way to get started.

I would also like to share some of the things I have learned over the years, in the hope of helping other traders succeed in this very rewarding career.

Good luck to you!

Gerard
